THE MICHALE E. KEELING CENTER

The Michale E. Keeling Center for Comparative Medicine and Research (MEKC) of The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Bastrop, Texas houses the Chimpanzee Biomedical Research Resource. As of October 2011 there were 176 chimpanzees held there. 71 chimpanzees that were once held at the now defunct Primate Foundation of Arizona were transferred to MEKC. 167 of the chimpanzees there are supported by federal funds.

Summer 2015 UPDATE:  There are 141 chimpanzees now held here.

Summer 2017 UPDATE:  There are 131 chimpanzees in Bastrop.

Summer 2018 UPDATE:  There are 130 chimpanzees in Bastrop.

Summer 2020 UPDATE:  There are 63 chimpanzees at Bastrop.
